To the future owners or 521 Hertzler Road,
Don Farinelli, one of the best builders in Central PA, built our house for us. It shows in the quality of the house, from the antique wide plank pine floors throughout the home to the solid wood doors in every room. The foyer is reminiscent of the Pennsylvania State Capitol floor with the identical handmade tiles inlaid into the floor. The wood burning fireplace in the family room is often blazing while the snow is falling outside. When friends walk in, they have always commented it "feels like home."
There are so many incredible, versatile spaces in this home. The guest room on the main level has handicap accessible wide doors and a private bath. Upstairs, the bedrooms are spacious. There is also an office with a craft area. The master suite offers luxuries like a sitting area and a master closet like none other! It is oversized and the size of the 3 car garage it is located above.
While the inside is home, the outside is also a paradise. The six acre lot has mature, beautiful trees. The maples ablaze with color are beautiful to see out the kitchen windows in the fall. We have spent countless hours sitting on the sofa by the pond. The waterfall makes the most soothing sounds (which you can hear up in the master bedroom if you choose.) We sit by the pond every evening in the summer, often sitting with friends and entertaining on the weekends. Our kids have had many fires in the fire pit with their friends over the years. While it is burning, they would play bocce on the court beside the pit or shoot basketball on the sports court. But the best memories come from doing "drive in movie night" on the tennis wall. The projector would beam on the giant screen while everyone would eat popcorn. When little, the boys would catch fish and frogs down in the little creek which runs in the front of the property. The barn has been home to ducks and chickens over the years, which our children have said was the best experience EVER when they were little. The house with it's six acres feels like your own little slice of heaven, private, but still right next to a more exclusive neighborhood with everything one needs within a 5 to 10 minute drive. It truly is the best of both worlds.
Mechanicsburg is in a great location. Yes, it is a small town, but it is surrounded by opportunities; Of course you have Philadelphia, Washington DC and Baltimore all close enough for day trips and adventures. New York City is a short train ride away, as is much of the east coast by Amtrak, which is a 15 minute drive from our home. Closer to your door, you have Gettysburg. It is a special place to spend many days and seasons, exploring history and hiking or horseback riding. Other outdoor opportunities are very close with skiing about 10 minutes from the house.
Grocery shopping is not a favorite thing for me. However, there are two great stores within 5 minutes of our location. That closeness makes the chore much easier. When not cooking at home, we have enjoyed finding the little restaurant gems hiding locally. Breakfast is great at Diener's in downtown Mechanicsburg. Lunch and dinner can be had at many small family owned establishments. One can eat American, Greek, Italian, Mediterranean, Asian, and many more very close to home.
Mechanicsburg Area School District is one of the area's best educational institutions. Our children loved their elementary experiences and had excellent teachers. The Mechanicsburg Middle School is full of devoted teachers and administrators. The high school also has a great reputation for education. Our kids thought it was the perfect size. It is not small, nor is it a huge campus, so they found many activities in which to excel. The school district has consistently demonstrated a commitment to the arts and music. Our children benefited greatly from that commitment. Academically, our kids took advantage of the many advanced placement courses which are offered at school. All the schools are close to the house, with the high school the farthest away at about a 12 minute drive.
We have truly enjoyed our time here, and we are certain that you will too!
