To the future owners of 2060 Powderhorn Road,
There are so many incredible reasons to love this home! We fell in love with the ceiling in the living room and the open floor plan. We love cooking (with gas), and we love being with our friends and large extended family. The open floor plan allowed us to cook while entertaining family and friends. The stairs looked majestic and the columns added a nice touch. There are lots of windows, which allows for natural light to get in. There are tons of closets, and the master bedroom is large with beautiful wood floors and a fireplace. The finished basement is fantastic also. We were able to put three different games (ping pong, a foosball table and a shuffle board) all of which got plenty of use. We also have a large deck that let us watch the sunset while enjoying our dinners outside. We have a great yard. We played lots of badminton and croquet. The yard is landscaped with river rocks, and we planted some trees that will give even more privacy.
In this neighborhood we found the best neighbors we could have asked for. They have become life-long friends, and they always embrace newcomers. Most of them have grown up here and those who had left, came back.
We love that our neighborhood is safe and convenient. The children walk around and bike around without a care. We love the fact that we can get a great walk or a run in a beautiful setting. We also loved how well kept the houses around us were. When we drive around in the spring, there are beautiful flowers and beautiful lawns everywhere. We remember that within the week we moved here we were invited to a 4th of July party. It was wonderful. There is a great neighborhood spirit that will be hard to replicate elsewhere.
Our kids were older but our neighbors love Kunkel Elementary School. They say this is the best elementary school in the area. We like the fact that some of our kids go to excellent schools including Penn State, UPenn, and Elizabethtown, among others.
Our neighborhood is located within 15 minutes of some of the major employers in the area: Penn State Medical School; Penn State Harrisburg; State government. We are within two miles of grocery stores and shopping (e.g., Target, Weis). We are particularly happy with our experience at Weis. We found them always helpful and friendly, so we will miss them. I could order specific cuts of meat and they would get them for me. Really a good grocery store.
There are all kinds restaurants from elegant (e.g., Alfred's Victoria in Middletown within 4 miles; Devon's in Hershey, Rubicon and Harvest in Harrisburg, within 9 miles) to laid back (e.g.,Tattered Flag Brewery and Brownstone in Middletown; To Pho Kim and El Sol).We have enjoyed the food and the service. Always excellent.
Another really good place that we love to walk to is Strites Orchard, which is less than one mile from our home. They have the best pies. I have taken many of those pies to friends and now I can't go visit anyone in another state without bringing pies from Strites. They also sell great fresh produce. We can also pick our apples during the apple season, peaches during peaches season, and many other fruits. It is a wonderful place for kids and adults.
Lower Swatara Township is the perfect location. It is within a two or three hour drive of major metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia, PA. These are areas our jobs take us frequently. You cannot find a better place to call home!
