To the future owners of 91 Blackburn Road,
When my husband and I looked at the house, we fell in love with the serenity you feel here. I love the peace and quiet. When I bought this house, I had 2 horses. This was a perfect area to keep my horses, ride, and just relax. Deer come to the pond, along with herons, ducks, geese, and once a bald eagle landed in the trees nearby. In the fall, you can hear Great Horned Owls calling to each other at dusk. There is a farm next door that encompasses over 100 acres. You can sit in the yard and watch them work the fields with horses and mules. People would ask us where we went on vacation. We would say "home!" It's a perfect place to relax and recharge. You certainly have your privacy here. I've never even put up blinds or curtains throughout the house because I didn't need them.
I've had a blast decorating the house for fall and the neighbors can tell you stories about how I line the driveway with jack-o-lanterns at Halloween. My husband takes over as decorator at Christmas and we probably have as many lights inside as out!
I love the mix of the house. It started off life as a log cabin built by a lawyer for weekend retreats. His family never came out, so he sold it to the people from whom we purchased it. They put on the addition that contains the master bed, bath, kitchen, dining room, and living room. Interestingly, the driveway was once part of the old railroad bed for the Lancaster, Oxford, and Southern narrow gauge railroad. It continues across the street to 390 Center Road.
Solanco High School is walking distance, and I've attended some really great football games there in the fall. It has a good reputation and it's been an icon of the community for generations. In the spring they pay tribute to the agricultural heritage of the area and the kids drive farm tractors to school. Some of them are new and shiny, others are lovingly restored antiques. It's quite a sight to see them coming down Route 222!
The local grocery store, F&H, has great fresh meats and produce. Of course, in the summer and into early fall you can't beat the roadside stands for produce. Musser's market is just down at the Buck for Sunday shopping since F&H is Mennonite owned and closes early Saturday and all day Sunday. Good's Store is an old fashion general store in town where you can get almost anything. If you don't see it just ask! Walmart is open 24 hrs just down in Oxford, 11 miles away. You only have to go into Lancaster proper to eat at any of the amazing restaurants there. Don't miss the Italian bakery next to the court house on Duke Street. Quarryville is close to many nearby cities as well. I've worked in Wilmington DE, Baltimore, Mechanicsburg, and found all of these places within an easy commute.
We quickly found this home to be a haven of peace and security. It's been a great home, not just a house. Time to start a new adventure and let this house keep the next family safe and secure. God bless!
