To the future owners of 1144 Greenwood Drive,
We had purchased a home a few miles away about a year before we learned about this home just by chance. We had wanted more space for entertaining our family, colleagues, and friends as well as more private areas for the kids and us. We loved the open areas where we could be together as in the kitchen cooking with loads of space for everyone to hang out either around the island or in the extended open family room area around the fireplace. The game room and TV room on the lower level enabled us to have multi age groups together each enjoying their own activities. We love the complete wet bar and fifty-five degree wine cellar. We have set up an exercise/workout room and also have an infrared sauna. We use the dining room every day, whether with just the two of us or with the family crowds of sixteen. We love our upstairs personal suite with the large double shower, walk-in closet and separate loft for our own use. Our neighbors are very friendly and helpful.
I love the absolute feeling of privacy. Although the house is on a wooded lot we have opened up the back of the home into ‘rooms/patios’ surrounded by many unusual specimen trees and shrubs which fit into the native landscape. There is also a woodland path with many native flowers, such as bleeding heart, columbine, and trillium. Our many large windows look out to the patios, deck, and woods with no need for window treatments. We love the travertine marble walk to the front French Door entrance, lined with espaliered hydrangea, boxwood, and rhododendron which complements the all-brick exterior. It’s hard to realize you are so close to everything while relaxing or working from home.
Our kids attended Derry Township Schools – very highly rated with many extracurricular activities for both young men and women. We were pleased with the staff and their attention to the kids’ wellbeing. There are also sports teams outside of the school that you can sign up for additionally, for different age groups. If you are inclined, there are numerous other school alternatives such as St. Joan of Arc, and private academies such as Harrisburg Academy and Lancaster Country Day. There are also excellent day-care facilities nearby and early education schools such as The Goddard School within 5 minutes of home.
Derry township is located central to many activities both outdoors and indoors: State and local parks, streams and rivers for boating or tubing, golf, museums, libraries, and excellent health care. We appreciate being close to major interstate highways, just a 2 hour drive to Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Baltimore. Beaches in New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware are easily reached by car. The Amtrak station and Harrisburg International Airport, both with easy parking, are minutes from the house. We love the landscape here in Central PA and the beautiful change of seasons.
It’s great to have a large selection of restaurants to choose from. Maybe it’s the brick oven pizza from Dafno’s, seafood and steak at Devon, or special celebrations at the Circular Dining Room in The Hotel Hershey. Duck Donuts, Jersey Mike’s subs, and numerous ethnic restaurants make all types of food available. The Harrisburg and Lancaster areas also offer many other great dining choices. Although we have large grocery stores like Giant, Weiss, and Wegman’s nearby there are other local options like Pronio’s Grocery and the Farmers Markets in Lemoyne and Lancaster with many vendors with fish, meats, deli, coffee and gifts. We love the personal attention from the staff when you become a “regular” at many of the shops in the area.
We have loved this home for quite some time. We wanted to share with you the best features of this home and location with you. We are certain that you will enjoy this home as much as we have!
