West Bayberry is a fantastic street in the established Forest Hills neighborhood. The street itself is only one block long and does not connect major streets in the neighborhood so there is very little street traffic. There are two playgrounds within a few blocks of the house, one with a basketball court the other with tennis courts and a pavilion. It is a safe place for kids and others who walk or ride bikes with sidewalks on all streets. The location at the base of the Blue Mountains means there is plenty of wildlife. I see deer almost daily, sometimes the fawns bed down in my backyard, I have also seen wild turkeys, blue heron, and the occasional fox. There is also a trail leading into the forest above the neighborhood that starts one block from the house.
Given the new work from home situation brought about by Covid, the dedicated home office is a big plus but in general the home is open floor plan and very bright. Outdoors there is a very large South facing deck that is a great place to be on a sunny day.
Central Dauphin School District consistently performs well but the best are the elementary, North Side, and middle school, Linglestown Jr High. Both schools are on the small side and have realistic student to teacher ratios. I found the teachers at both to be very open to communications and eager to help children with interested parents.
This location is close to all of the local stores and restaurants. There is a Weis grocery store less than 1/2 mile from the house that is very convenient and never crowded. There is also a full-service Giant grocery store about one mile from the house that has a sandwich counter, pizza counter and Chinese counter. There are many restaurants close by offering everything from fast food to bars to relatively high-end dining at Greystone Manor. Golf is also nearby for those who play at Colonial Country Club.
